The first 2 weeks was focused on creating a math mindset that values perseverance, problem solving, pattern seeking, and the construction of mathematically reasoned arguments. Students engaged in math that was slightly above grade level to practice finding a starting point, making mistakes, and working as a community to find new learning. We explored Pascal's Triangle, analyzed graphs, challenged the concept of half, and created conceptual 3D shapes. Students worked on activities like "which one doesn't belong" (https://wodb.ca) to practice creating arguments to support reasoning. I am so inspired by their hard work! This group of students does not back down from a challenge and they work hard. This is amazing work for the first 8 days of 4th grade! I am excited to give them opportunities to develop as problem solvers and critical thinkers!

The "which doesn't belong" exercises made an impression and we continued to explore these ideas at home. Thanks for providing such a great foundation for our students' exploration and learning!
